You’ll be sitting there in front of the man we’re calling tonight as the
‘Tok Kadi’ and my dad sits facing the both of you, being my only
‘Wali’. Dad’s heart is thumping fast as if he had just done something
big in his life, and I know this is it. He’s waiting for the moment to
let go of his youngest daughter, the only one left in the family, for a
boy I chooses by myself. ‘Is he the right one?’ He thinks over and over again. The boy that I chose was the one that had promised me a happy ever after. And this is beginning part of the happy ever after.
LeMe, entering the room, showing myself to the others. Nervously walking through to the centre part of the living room of my own house. Walking has never been this hard. Each pair of eyes staring at me from head to toe. I’m wearing a white Jubah decorated with sparkles of purple in the end, a purple hijab covering my hair completely and in the addition of a piece of niqab showing nothing but my eyes.
I saw you from across the room. How are you over there? From the outside, we’re wearing a matching outfit. A white Baju Melayu and a songkok properly added on your head with a purple samping . I think I fell for you one more time. You smiled at me. The smile you’re wearing, is it still smiling inside? How do you feel? Does your heart racing like I am? Do we feel the same? I’m nervous from head to toe over here. Too many questions, but one thing for sure, deep inside I know you’re happy as much as I am.
With Basmallah, it started. I could see my mom holding back her happy tears and keep on smiling to see this moment happen. Not a second to ignore this. She had been ready for this for nine whole years. Everything that I did with you, I told her first. I’m the only one left in the family. Fortunately the whole thing went well. Nothing interrupts the beautiful moment ‘til the end. I heard it ‘Aku nikahkan dikau..’ oh how I wish you could feel my heart racing by that time. ‘Aku terima nikahnya’ and as the others said ‘Sah!’, nothing can stop me from smiling. With one agrees, I’m yours, officially.
You came to me after ‘Solat Sunat’ saying thankfulness tu Allah for this blissful moment. You’re facing me. I gave you my left hand and you make me wear thy symbol of our marriage through my ring finger. You looked into my eyes as you’re untying my niqab. My eyes, trying stop tears from streaming down across my cheeks. I saw me in your eyes, I’m officially yours, we’re smiling. A gentle kiss you gave me at the forehead and that’s where I finally realize it is all true. Finally, we are one. Our heart, our soul, from now ‘til Jannah, InsyaAllah. We’re Halal.
